Mama to mama -how to prep for labor

Experiencing pregnancy for the first time, I had no idea how to “approach” the third trimester. I’ve slowly been learning all the tips from others who have waddled through this seemingly never-ending trimester before me. 

  • Squats
    • Strengthen your pelvic floor and build endurance
    • Decrease lower back and pelvic pains
    • Encourage baby to naturally descend
  • Leaning forward (on an exercise ball or over a counter/desk)
    • Alleviates pressure
    • Encourages baby to move down in optimal birthing position
  • Lying on your left side
    • Promotes flow of blood and nutrients to placenta and baby
    • Keeps baby in optimal birthing position
  • Sitting on an exercise ball instead of a chair
    • Keeps pelvis aligned and stabilized
    • Encourages baby to stay in birthing position
    • Strengthens core
  •  Walking
    • Contributes to shorter, easier labors
    • Prevents gestational diabetes and preeclampsia
    • Combats constipation
  • Muscle Tension and Release
    • Relaxation technique worth practicing; when we feel pain, we naturally tense up, but this tension only intensifies the pain. Teaching your muscles to relax will help with contractions.
  • Red raspberry leaf tea
    • Strengthens uterine muscles and pelvic floor
    • Strengthens immune system and eases morning sickness
    • Promotes better circulation
    • Supports breast milk production
  • Dates
    • Reduce need for induction
    • Promote dilation and shorter labors
  •  Pineapple
    • Contains an enzyme called bromelain that is thought to soften cervix
  • Perineal Massage
    • Prevents tearing during delivery
  •  Sex
    • Can help soften your cervix towards the end of pregnancy
